About ...
Street Studio Hungary is an exciting new project conceptualized and led by Hungarian singer-songwriter Vera Jonas and our Budapest-based team. In the fall of 2012, Ms. Jonas was a Fellow in the inaugural year of the OneBeat international cultural exchange, a US State Department initiative produced by Bang on a Can’s Found Sound Nation (FSN) that brings outstanding individual musicians from around the world to the US for four weeks of creative collaboration, dialogue, and engagement with communities. Her experience at OneBeat as a cultural ambassador encouraged her to re-examine the role of music in Hungarian society and inspired her to develop project ideas to address social and cultural issues in her country.
Upon returning home, Vera was inspired to focus on ways that music can bridge the gaps between various ethnic groups in Hungary, with a particular focus on young Roma musicians. Our idea, called Street Studio Hungary, builds on one of Found Sound Nation’s models of music-based engagement, which Vera experienced during OneBeat. For this workshop, our team will work with a group of young Roma musicians based at the Snétberger Talent centre and Found Sound Nation to learn the FSN Street Studio methodology, and then use the model to engage communities and collaboratively create music (in public squares, universities, music festivals, etc.) in a handful of cities across Hungary. In the same way Ms. Jonas experienced how OneBeat encouraged dialogue and engagement, we hope the introduction of the street studio model to young Roma musicians in Hungary will help facilitate understanding and awareness between the Roma community and other non-Roma Hungarians, and will spur more ideas for music-based engagement for young Roma participants.
A turné helyszínei:
Augusztus 23-án délután Balatonfüred, Tagore sétány.
Augusztus 24-én egész nap Pécs, Szamárfül Fesztivál.
Augusztus 25-én délután Budapest, Grund.
Az ötletgazda Jónás Vera, aki 2012 őszén az amerikai OneBeat nevű tehetségprogram keretein belül 32 a világ minden tájáról összetrombitált zenésszel dolgozott és turnézott az Egyesült Államok keleti partján. A koncertek mellett rendszeresen állítottak fel utcai stúdiókat, melyekkel a városok lakóival készítettek közös felvételeket. Később Vera Svájcban is kipróbálta ezt a modellt, majd úgy döntött elhozza Magyarország utcáira.
A zenéléshez előképzettség nem szükséges, a mikrofon bárki kezében megfordulhat. A dalok spontán születnek, melyben ér énekelni, tapsolni, beatboxolni, hangszeren játszani, vagy bármilyen izgalmas hangot kiadni!
A Street Studio Hungary civil kezdeményezésként indult, az online közösségi finanszírozás mellett az Amerikai Egyesült Államok Nagykövetsége és az amerikai Neutral Milk Hotel indie-rockzenekar is támogatja a projektet.
